In this interactive 50-minute session, secondary math teachers will engage as learners in a student-centered, inquiry-based task designed to promote mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and data interpretation. Participants will experience firsthand what it feels like to grapple with an open-ended task, using the Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMPs) and computational thinking to make sense of the problem and uncover multiple pathways to a solution. Following the task, we will reflect on the moves and questions that supported student thinking and explore how to intentionally design or adapt lessons that encourage inquiry. Emphasis will be placed on how teachers can use purposeful questioning and computational thinking to guide students toward deeper understanding, rather than steering them toward a single "correct" answer.
